How do I hide my phone number on Kijiji?
Leave the phone number field blank when you post, and buyers reach you through Kijiji messages only. If you already typed your number into the description, edit the ad and delete it. Kijiji has no setting that hides a number once it is in the ad text. If you want buyers to text you without giving out your cell, post a separate listing number instead of your own.
What Kijiji hides, and what it does not
Kijiji has an optional phone number field on the post-ad form. A number entered there sits behind a "Reveal phone number" button. Anyone who clicks the button sees it, and the button is not a barrier to a person or a script that wants the number.
A number typed into the title or description is plain text. It is shown to everyone, it is copied into search engine caches, and it appears on the scraped copies of Kijiji listings that other sites publish. Editing the ad removes it from Kijiji. It does not remove it from copies already made.
Three ways to keep your cell off the ad
- Kijiji messages only. Leave the phone field empty and do not put a number in the text. Buyers write through the site. The trade-off is that many buyers, especially for cars and rentals, prefer to text, and some will skip an ad with no number.
- A free app number. Apps such as TextNow or Fongo give you a Canadian number on your phone. They work, they need the app installed, and the number is yours for as long as you keep the app.

If your number is already out there
